We reached out to the talented personal shopper, image consultant and stylist to get his expert advice on how to make a statement this Heritage Month.
AFI Insider: What are your top 3 tips for creating an impactful look on Heritage Day?.
Siyavuya Dondolo: My tips are as follows…
Tip 1: Keep things simple. Your accessories shouldn’t overshadow your outfit, they must compliment each other.
Tip 2: More is more. If colour and print are the order of the day for your look don’t limit yourself. Your hair can be accessorised with a gorgeous head band or head wrap to complete your look.
Tip 3: Versatility and creativity. For the gents, it’s ideal to wear your traditional or cultural top with a pair of chinos or even a pair of jeans and a colourful sneaker or sandal. For the ladies, colourful and printed skirts would normally look great with a statement t-shirt and a bold sneaker, or even a gladiator heel. Lip colour is also an accessory on its own, so make sure it stands out.
AFI Insider: Which pieces from the AFI Boutique would you pick to put together your own Heritage Day look?
Siyavuya Dondolo: I would have to go with the following options…
Option 1: I love the double-breasted design. The colour is versatile, and would allow me to slip on a white shirt or even a white t-shirt to suit various occasions.
Option 2: This look is beautiful because it is suitable for a traditional ceremony and a daytime brunch with your circle of friends. The detail adds character to the look and it won’t just turn heads, but break necks too!
Option 3: This look is another favourite. The round neck detail makes it more comfortable and gives more ventilation for those hot summer days, while still looking sophisticated. I love outfits that don’t limit your look. You can switch between sneakers and sandals, and accessorise with a matching hat and shades.
