SCALO’s New York Fashion Week Debut

African fashion designer, Sello Madupe, debuted at New York Fashion Week this week, with Emerge! Fashion Runway Show. No stranger to the international fashion world, SCALO has presented collections at the AFI Fashion Week since 2013 and appeared in the Italian Torino Fashion Week in 2018.

The designer of the SCALO Collection described the featured collection in an Instagram post as, “a celebration of our country’s heritage.” He goes on to talk about the kind of woman he designs for saying: “My woman is confident, sophisticated, knows where she comes from and where she’s going.”

“I want to be influential, in terms of inspiring people, by making African couture that can stand out in the world,” Sello Madupe

The Emerge! Fashion Runway Show’s main goal is to provide a mobilizing platform for emerging designers from around the globe. For this year’s show, along with Scalo Designs from South Africa, Nigerian brand, Orla Couture, Haus of L.A from Los Angeles, and Jesu’ Segun from London were also featured.
